Hometown Heroes Banner Program

Shrewsbury Borough is creating a Hometown Heroes military veteran recognition program to publicly honor military veterans and those currently serving in the United States Armed Forces with a banner mounted on utility poles located in the Borough.

Banners will be printed in color on both sides on a durable, weather-resistant material and are expected to remain in good condition for at least two years. Banners will be five feet tall and include a picture of the veteran, name, branch of service and additional information provided on an application. The final design has not been determined, but it is expected to be similar to the sample pictures below:

Cost for the banners is $200 for a minimum display period of 2 years. At the end of the
initial display period, the banner will be provided to the applicant.

In order to be considered for selection, the veteran MUST meet the following criteria:

  • Either currently serving in good standing (Active, Reserve or National Guard) or have been honorably discharged from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard or Space Force
  • Veteran considers Shrewsbury Borough their “hometown” and either lived in Shrewsbury Borough for a portion of their life or currently live in Shrewsbury Borough or has a strong connection to Shrewsbury Borough.
  • Applicants and/or veterans may be requested to provide proof of honorable discharge or currently serving in good status.

An application is required and will be reviewed by a selection committee. The committee is represented by Shrewsbury Borough Council, the Shrewsbury Centennial Lions Club and Southern York Rotary Club. A majority of selection committee members are military veterans. The selection committee expects to be contacting all applicants as part of the review process. For questions/information email Mayor Mike Sharkey: MSharkey@ShrewsburyBorough.org.
