Electronics Recycling
Effective January 24, 2013, Under Act 108, trash haulers will not accept electronic devices as part of the trash stream. This includes answering machines, compact disc players, fax machines, computer hard drives, laptops, mobile phones, modems, microwave ovens, pagers, PCs and peripherals, printers, printer circuit boards, radios, remote controls, stereos, tape players, telephones, televisions, and VCRs. Best Buy (717-840-4530) offers free recycling of covered devices. Check with retail outlets prior to delivering items to ensure acceptance and limit of specific items. The York County Solid Waste & Refuse Authority also accepts electronic devices free at its facility on Flour Mill Road on Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 4 PM, and Saturdays 8 AM to noon. Salvation Army
Only clean clothing and shoes are to be placed in the Salvation Army bin. Residents who have furniture, appliances or other large items for the Salvation Army need to contact the Salvation Army at 1-800-95-TRUCK. Other items accepted at the recycle drop-off area include: aluminum, steel, and bi-metal cans; any color glass; plastic bottles, containers and jugs; newsprint and cardboard.
Used Motor Oil
It’s always a challenge to dispose of your used motor oil properly. Disposal sites include the Walmart at Exit Four, Shrewsbury Concrete, and Advanced Auto.
Aero Oil in New Freedom takes old propane tanks.
